Together with dragonflies, damselflies are part of the predatory odonata order of insects. Unlike dragonflies, they tend to flutter in flight, and perch with their wings folded back against their bodies rather than outstretched – sometimes even stopping for long enough to be photographed. Their colours can be just as spectacular as their dragony cousins.
